Team LAYF’s Andre Brouillette secured his spot in the coveted Big Otso as he got the highest number of votes from the public last Saturday (July 27), taking the eighth and last throne in “PBB Otso.”

Andre received a total text vote of 57.85% and triumped against Batch 4’s Argel Saycon (22.36%), Wealand Ferrer (15.77%), and Akie Poblete (4.02%).

He joins batch winners Lie Reposposa, Ashley Del Mundo, Kiara Takahashi, Batch 1’s Kaori Oinuma, and his fellow Batch 2 housemates Lou Yanong, Yamyam Gucong, and Fumiya Sankai.

A twist was also revealed as Kuya introduced the “Golden 8” that contains 100 golden bars. Each housemate has to win tasks to collect golden bars that will help them increase their chance to be part of the Ultim8 Big Four. Their combined scores in the challenges (50%) and public text votes (50%) will determine their fate in the Big Night.

Meanwhile, fans who want to witness the Big Night this Saturday and Sunday (August 3 and 4) can go to ktx.abs-cbn.com to get free tickets. Others can also buy VIP (P1,200) and lower box (P1,000) tickets and receive freebies, including PBB fanbook, batch light stick, string bag, button pins, and keychain.

Before Magandang Gabi Bayan kept Pinoys up at night, there was Regal Shocker that had ‘80s kids sleeping with the lights on. The anthology series took on different sub-genres of horror, from the supernatural to classic creatures from Filipino mythology. The show was such a hit that it even had its own movie released in 1989.

The young cast of Stranger Things know a thing or two about taking on supernatural monsters from the ‘80s, so Netflix tasked your favorite Hawkins gang to watch Episode 3 of Regal Shocker: The Movie.

Widely considered as the scariest episode of the bunch, Episode 3, entitled “Aparador”, stars actress Ruffa Gutierrez, who unwittingly moves into her new apartment where a cabinet is haunted by a disturbed young girl.

After watching a few scenes, Finn Wolfhard (“Mike”) points out that maybe the monster just “wants to be loved”, while Gaten Matarazzo (“Dustin”) just wants to know: “What is the plot?!”

Adventure never stops for Kapamilya host Gretchen Ho who recently went soul-searching in Seoul, South Korea, one of Asia’s most popular tourist destinations.

According to Gretchen, Seoul is a must-see for Filipinos because of the place’s unique and colorful culture.

“I think our Kapamilya should really go to Seoul because it really has soul. It is evident in the arts, food, entertainment, landmarks, and tourist spots,” she shared.

Gretchen will share her unforgettable experience in the city this Sunday (August 4) as “Matanglawin’s” featured “Adventurista” this week.

Join the “Umagang Kay Ganda” anchor as she climbs up the iconic N’Seoul Tower on Namsan Mountain and then encounters “locks of love” left by couples on her way down. She also played with lovable raccoons in a café at Daehangno Steet and enjoyed a 360 view of Seoul on the Lotte Tower, the fifth highest structure in the world.

A soul-searching trip is not complete without getting to spend a quiet time alone or learning a new skill. For this, the “Tikim Princess” trooped to the “Coffee Capital of South Korea,” where one can find 8,000 coffee shops. At the C. Through Café, which is famous for their rendition of Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night” on coffee, Gretchen learned how to do coffee art from the coffee shop’s owner himself.

Not to be left behind, “Matanglawin” anchor Kuya Kim Atienza will also be sharing his fun bonding experience with an Asian Palm Civet Cat, which happens to be the producer of the most expensive coffee in the world, with a single cup costing almost P8,000!

Catch Gretchen Ho and Kuya Kim Atienza’s adventures this Sunday (August 4), 9:45 am on “Matanglawin” on ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN HD. Watch online on iWant or skyondemand.com.ph.

These entries will be brought to life by a diverse set of interpreters—some of whom also penned the tracks that they will be interpreting.

In addition, “The Killer Bride” star Janella Salvador once again joins the roster of interpreters by singing “Nung Tayo Pa” of Rex Torremoro and Elmar Jann Bolaño.

Former “Idol Philippines” contestant Alekzandra Nicolle Quitalig will compete this time with her own composition, “Alaala,” while Davao-based singer-songwriter Eamarie Gilayo will likewise interpret her own song, “Ikaw at Linggo.”

Meanwhile, “Isa Pang Ikaw,” composed by Joseph Ponce will be sung by former “X Factor Australia” contestant and Star Music artist Justin Vasquez. On the other hand, acoustic balladeer TJ Monterde will perform “Panandalian,” from composers Jerome Arcangel and Cee Jay Del Rosario.

Actress, singer and vlogger Alex Gonzaga will meanwhile sing the composition of Michael Angelo “Aikee” Aplacador titled “Please Lang.”

Former “X Factor Philippines” contender Joan Da will interpret her song with LJ Manzano, while singer-songwriter Davey Langit comes back in the competition—this time as an interpreter of the song “Simula ng Dulo,” which he co-wrote with Therese Marie Villarante.

7 Times ‘Mga Batang Poz’ Gave Us the Sex Talk We Needed, But Never Had

$

We tend to keep quiet about things that make us uncomfortable, but silence–society’s go-to strategy for handling “awkward” topics–is inadequate. This is why “Mga Batang Poz,” an iWant original series that aims to promote HIV awareness, is timely, relevant, and important – it has opened up discussions about things that we Filipinos still refuse to talk about, especially at home.

Starring Awra Briguela as Chuchay, Fino Hererra as Luis, Mark Neumann as Gab/Kenneth, and Paolo Gumabao as Enzo, the six-part series based on Segunda Matias Jr.’s novel of the same name brings to life four Filipino teenagers who find solace in one another after being finding out they have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The Philippines has the fastest-growing HIV epidemic in the Asia-Pacific region, according to the Department of Health (DOH). Majority of these infections are also reported to be among young people aged 15 to 24, said the Philippine National AIDS Council in 2018. This year, DOH reported that 38 new HIV cases are reported daily, up from last year’s 32.

A few episodes into the series, viewers will find that “Mga Batang Poz” is much more than just an advocacy series promoting HIV awareness; it also addresses many of the things we “think” we know, and answers many questions that we may feel too awkward or ashamed to ask.

Here are a few things we learned from “Mga Batang Poz” that show that the series is a great way to educate parents and kids alike about sex, sexually transmitted diseases, and even just the importance of using condoms:

(WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD)

  1. HIV cannot be contracted by simply touching an HIV-positive person.

In the series, Chuchay’s best friend finds out that he is HIV-positive, but hugs him anyway.

Despite the fact that HIV can’t be contracted by mere hugging, kissing, or using the same things, however, people continue to act as though the disease is easily contagious. In this scene, Kenneth/Gab is left sitting alone in a carinderia, after customers left their tables, fearing that close proximity to him would get them infected with HIV.

Also wrong: Enzo’s mom instructs their family maid to separate Enzo’s dishes and laundry as a way to make sure the rest of the family does not contract the disease.

  1. Using protection during sex should always be a top priority.

Allan, the man Luis had lost his virginity to, stresses that he must always protect himself.

RJ’s partner also calls him out for not using protection during the confrontation scene between him, RJ, and Enzo.

3. Sexuality is nonbinary.

Here, the four boys briefly discuss Kenneth/Gab’s bisexuality, showing that sexual identity transcends the labels of “gay” and “straight.”

4.         It’s not only gay people that can contract HIV.

Just because you’re straight, doesn’t mean you’re safe. In the fourth episode, Gab’s girlfriend Via—loyal to her her beau—was diagnosed positive because her partner wasn’t as faithful as she was. It is also important to note that HIV-positive moms can transmit the virus to their baby during pregnancy, labor, or delivery. HIV may also be transmitted from blood transfusions.

5.         Everyone has their own way of exploring their sexuality.

People are people—and people currently have a ton of resources, especially with the internet accessible as it is. Luis uses the app “Pcker” to meet people to hook up with, while Enzo uses an alter account on “Warbler” to express his repressed sexuality. The latter’s family finds out eventually however, and the confrontation leads Enzo to bring up his dad’s porn use.

6. Having sex with a minor, even though it is supposedly “consensual,” is sexual assault.

Chuchay’s episode is undeniably one of the hardest to watch. Only 15 years old, Chuchay is visibly uncomfortable when he is bribed by a man in his 30s and talked her into having sex, even when she tries to find an excuse out of it by simply asking where his wife is. Chuchay may have gone back to his abuser for more money, but still, he is just a kid who is being manipulated but wants to provide for his poor family.

7.         It’s real and it’s happening.

Teenagers are having sex nowadays, and parents need to accept how their children’s lives operate so that they may lead them to a clearer, healthier path—one where they don’t feel that they’re alone or immoral. One thing we can do at home is talk about sex openly and advise our kids to always use protection.

All six episodes of “Mga Batang Poz,” directed by award-winning writer-director Chris Martinez, are already streaming for free on iWant. Download the iWant app on iOS or Android or register via iwant.ph.

Kesha drops “Best Day (Angry Birds 2 Remix)” via Kemosabe/RCA Records, encapsulating the carefree spirit of the season and suggesting we take a walk in the sunshine, dance with our friends and embrace the day to the fullest. Featured in The Angry Birds Movie 2 (out August 21st in the Philippines via Sony Pictures Animation in association with Rovio Entertainment), “Best Day (Angry Birds 2 Remix)” is pop music at its most joyful.

With a smooth vocal performance, funk bass line, beachside vibe, and a mantra-like refrain about seizing the moment and expelling negativity, the song captures what continues to make Kesha one of the pop world’s most refreshing stars: her effortlessly exciting and melodious songwriting, her spirited and earnest vocals, and of course her occasional doses of humor.

Of the inspiration for the track, which Kesha wrote with Wrabel, Ryan Lewis (who also produced the song) and Scott Harris, the singer said “I wanted to write a song that would make people feel GOOD. Life can be hard sometimes, and I wanted to write something to listen to in the morning to remind myself to be happy, grateful, positive and remember that I can choose to have the best day of my life (of my life, of my life). Every day. I also think high fives are great and would like to promote high fives whenever possible.”

“With a movie as colorful, fun, bright and hilarious as The Angry Birds Movie 2, we’re thrilled to have a song that gives a happy musical bounce to the movie,” said Spring Aspers, head of Sony Motion Pictures Music Group. “It’s the kind of song that will make you want to get up and dance right there in the theater.”
