Jaya has finally launched her latest album dubbed ”Queen of Soul,” her much-awaited studio album after seven years and her first under Star Music, featuring eight fresh, soulful tracks.

”We’ve first tried to release a few singles through digital platforms and I am happy of the positive reception it’s been receiving from [album tracks] “Hanggang Dito Na ‘Lang”, “Tanggap ko Na,” “Kasalanan Ko Ba,” “Won’t Cry,” featuring Gloc-9, “You’re a Liar, “ Tayo Pala Talaga,” and “Miracle Child,” the singer said of her new album co-produced by Cornerstone Music.

The “Queen of Soul” grand launch was held at the Ponte de Amore Bridge in Venice Grand Canal Mall at McKinley Hill, where she serenaded the crowd against a romantic Italian backdrop. Lucky fans who downloaded her digital album were also treated to a Meet and Greet session. Star Music artist JMKO opened the show which was hosted by MOR DJ Eva Ronda.

Jaya’s newest album followed the success of her concert last April at Resorts World Manila held in celebration of her 30th year in the music industry.

“I am only reinventing for the newer audience but I still cater to the crowd who loved me since day one. I want the album to speak for itself, music they can relate to, and love through the years to come,” the Queen of Soul enthusiastically shared.

Jaya is the first Pinoy recording artist who made it to the Billboard charts. Recently, her YouTube collaboration “SOULJA” with Philippines’ RnB Royalties—Prince of Soul, Jason Dy, and King of RnB, JayR—reached a million views.

How can people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or “poz” move forward and live normal, productive lives amidst the burden of stigma and isolation? What can families and friends do for a loved one who has HIV?

To shed light on HIV and give hope to HIV-positive people and their loved ones, streaming service iWant launches its original advocacy series “Mga Batang Poz,” about the journey of four HIV-positive teenagers, that starts streaming for free on Friday (July 26) on the iWant app and iwant.ph.

Based on the best-selling young adult novel by Palanca-winning author Segundo Matias Jr., “Mga Batang Poz” stars Mark Neumann, Fino Herrera, Paolo Gumabao, and Awra Briguela. The six-episode series is helmed by the critically acclaimed writer-director Chris Martinez.

The series will take viewers to what HIV-positive people from different backgrounds face every day: questioning what it means to live after knowing their diagnosis, managing their disease via antiretroviral medications, and braving judgment from families, friends, and society.

Mark plays Gab, a 16-year-old bisexual who gets entangled in a passionate love affair with his long-term girlfriend and guy best friend, while Fino portrays Luis, a 15-year-old Filipino-Chinese teenager who explores his sexuality, loses his virginity to an older guy, and eventually gets addicted to unprotected sex.

Awra brings to life Chuchay, 15, an optimistic boy who grew up in a poor household and resorts to using sex for money. Paolo, meanwhile, depicts 16-year-old Enzo, a Wattpad writer neglected by his parents and sacrifices his health for a man who promises him love and commitment.

After finding each other in a social media support group for “poz’s” using their online alter egos, Gab, Luis, Enzo, and Chuchay decide to meet at a coffee shop. From there, they form a bond and start a road trip together to search for hope, overcome their despair and uncertainties, and accept their present situation in order to move forward and fulfill their dreams.

Aside from the series, iWant also continues the conversation on its advocacy and what still needs to be done in an exclusive special called “Poz Talk” with Karen Davila, the four lead stars, the author of the novel, and HIV-positive people who will bravely share their stories. It will also come out on Friday (July 26) on iWant.

The Philippines has the fastest-growing HIV epidemic in the Asia-Pacific region, according to the Department of Health (DOH). Majority of these infections are also reported to be among young people aged 15 to 24, said the Philippine National AIDS Council in 2018. This year, DOH reported that 38 new HIV cases are reported daily, up from last year’s 32.

“Mga Batang Poz” is adapted into series by writer Jerry Gracio and is produced by Unitel, StraightShooters, Inc., and Dreamscape Digital. It also stars Yayo Aguila, Bobby Andrews, Joem Bascon, Gardo Versoza, Rita Avila, Mark Rivera, Benedict Campos, Raven Molina, Chesca Inigo, Patty Mendoza, Soliman Cruz, Tarek El Tayech, Dolly De Leon, Marina Benipayo, Chienna Filomeno, Ricardo Cepeda, Andrew Gan, Arnold Reyes, Angeli Agbayani, and Irma Adlawan.

Meanwhile, the official soundtrack of “Mga Batang Poz” will also be available on Spotify on Friday, featuring the songs “Gusto Kong Lumipad” by Agsunta, “Nothing On” by Kidwolf, “Puro Laro” by Carlo Bautista, “Ano Nga Ba Tayo?” by JMKO, “Sasamahan Kita” by Loisa Andalio, “Gitna” by Davey Langit.

Stream all the six episodes of “Mga Batang Poz” and “Poz Talk” starting Friday (July 26) on the iWant app (iOS and Android_ or on For updates, like www.facebook.com/iWant, and follow @iwant on Twitter and @dreamscapedigital and @iwantofficial on Instagram, and subscribe to www.youtube.com/iWantPH.

Leading media conglomerate GMA Network celebrates another milestone as the GMA Entertainment channel recently surpassed 10 million subscribers on YouTube, thus joining an elite group of content creators in Southeast Asia that have also achieved such a feat.

With this accomplishment, the Network formally received on July 23 the Diamond Creator Award, a recognition given by YouTube to content creators that have reached 10 million subscribers. Present in the ceremonial turnover were GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon; President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr.; Executive Committee Vice Chairman Joel G. Jimenez; Executive Vice President and CFO Felipe S. Yalong; GMA New Media, Inc. (NMI) President and COO Judd Gallares; and GMA NMI Senior Vice President and General Manager Dennis Caharian. The Diamond Play Button was awarded by YouTube’s Southeast Asia Director of Content Partnerships and Business Development Vishal Sarin, and Content Partnerships Philippines Country Lead Pablo Mendoza.

GMA Network and YouTube executives

Through NMI, the Network’s technology arm, GMA forged a partnership with YouTube dubbed the YouTube Player for Publishers (“YT PfP”) in mid-2017 that has enabled viewers everywhere to watch official, full episodes of GMA programs online. The partnership not only supports the anti-piracy efforts of GMA Network, but more significantly addresses the millennial video viewing habits that demand access to premium content when they want, wherever they may be. The YT PfP partnership was an enabler for GMA as it aided strategy for boosting YouTube views and hastening the acquisition of subscribers. It also allowed for a more robust content archive that used to only house show highlights, recaps, behind-the-scene videos, among others.

From only 1.6 million subscribers at the start of the YT PfP agreement in June 2017, this soared past 10 million in May this year. As of December 2018, the GMA Network YouTube channel’s rank improved from being in the Top 200 in 2017 to being among the Top 50 worldwide.

YouTube’s Mendoza and Sarin (fifth and sixth from left, respectively) with GMA Network executives led by Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon (eighth from left)

“We are very gratified that GMA has reached quite an achievement and it is translated into about four times growth [in watch time] year-on-year so that’s enough reason for us to be really happy. This is the work of many people and they are all here as we receive this Diamond Creator Award,” said Gozon.

Meanwhile, YouTube’s Sarin said, “We congratulate GMA for growing their channel to more than 10 million subscribers. This is a great milestone as there are only five media networks in Southeast Asia that have received the Diamond Creator Award and GMA is one of them.”

Of the achievement, Gallares shared, “Our mandate is to lead GMA’s transformation from a media and entertainment giant into a dominant multi-platform content provider worldwide. YouTube has in recent years been a strategic ally in this regard, as it has not only helped us expand GMA’s online footprint but it has also been key to building preference for the GMA brand. This recognition affirms that we are on track.”

Caharian further added that they were just showcasing the output of GMA Entertainment and how they help in making sure that their content can also be discovered online. “At the end of the day, what attracts a lot of viewers is still the quality of the content, so congratulations to GMA Entertainment. We’d also like to thank the viewers for their support, and we’d like them to know that many projects are in the pipeline for more viewing fun.”

YouTube’s Vishal Sarin (third from left) with Kapuso personalities (L-R) Atom Araullo, Bianca Umali, Michael V., Jessica Soho, and Kyline Alcantara

Since its launch in November 2006, the GMA Entertainment channel now has 11.8 billion lifetime views. Total subscribers are currently at 11.1 million, a million more in a span of less than three months.

Other Kapuso YouTube channels include GMA News for daily video clips from the Network’s news programs, now with 4.1 million subscribers; GMA Public Affairs for documentaries, docudrama, and news magazine shows, now with 6.1 million subscribers; GMA Playlist for heartfelt song renditions from various Kapuso stars; GMA Playground for some of the Network’s child-friendly programs; and GMA Regional TV for the top stories from the regions.
