Interstellar Cast

The announcement was made today by Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Megan Colligan, Paramount Pictures’ President of Worldwide Distribution Marketing. To date, the film has earned $328.9 million internationally and $120.7 million domestically for a global total approaching $450 million and counting.

The film, which had dominated the global box office in its first two weekends in release, had a phenomenal opening in China, where it has taken in an outstanding Rmb 505m ($82.5m) in the first 12 days in release and is already the second highest grossing film for the studio. The film is now the biggest Warner Bros. release ever in Korea and, in Russia, is already the highest-grossing Christopher Nolan film ever. It has shown incredible resilience, dropping only 21% in its second weekend and, over the third weekend, had an outstanding hold of -37% in a highly competitive marketplace.

Moviegoers wanting to take the journey on the largest possible canvas flocked to see “Interstellar” in IMAX theaters, generating a global total of $13.5 million in its third weekend. To date, the film has earned $33.3 million domestically and $38.7 million internationally for a worldwide total of $72 million on IMAX screens.

Said Colligan, “It is so thrilling to know that audiences of all ages—and the world over—have been captivated by Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar.’ We are excited to see that the tremendous reaction to the film is being shared among moviegoers everywhere.”

Kwan Vandenberg stated, “Christopher Nolan and his remarkable cast and filmmaking team have delivered another compelling cinematic ride that demands to be experienced on the big screen. The response of both critics and audiences alike is a testament to the film’s originality, spectacular visuals and emotional heft, and we expect enthusiastic word of mouth to continue to propel box office returns as we head into the busy holiday season.”

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan (“The Dark Knight” films, “Inception”) directed an international cast in “Interstellar,” led by Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey, Oscar winner Anne Hathaway, Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn, Oscar nominee John Lithgow and Oscar winner Michael Caine. The main cast also includes Casey Affleck, Wes Bentley, Bill Irwin, Mackenzie Foy, Topher Grace and David Gyasi.

“Interstellar” was written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan. Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Lynda Obst produced the film, with Jordan Goldberg, Jake Myers, Kip Thorne and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers.

Still showing across the Philippines in theaters and IMAX, “Interstellar” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

ABS-CBN Files $12M Lawsuit Against 18 Video Streaming Sites

$

ABS-CBN Corporation, ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc (Star Cinema) and ABS-CBN International filed suit in US Federal District Court in Florida last November 21, 2014 against 18 pirate sites for damages of over $12 million dollars resulting from the infringement of the copyrights and trademarks of ABS-CBN’s popular TV shows and movies.

The defendants are partnerships or unincorporated business associations which operate through domain names registered with registrars in the U.S. and elsewhere. Their domain names are the following:

1) buhaypinoyofw.net;
2) freepinoytvshows.net, pinoylovetvshowreplay.com;
3) hapeetube.biz, lovelytube.biz, pinoy-telebisyon.biz, pinoy-telebisyon.org;
4) lambingan.tk;
5) movieserye.com;
6) pinaytambayan.org;
7) pinoy-ako.me;
8) pinoymoviegallery.net;
9) pinoytambayan.me;
10) pinoytelesine.com;
11) pinoytopmovies.com;
12) pinoytv.me;
13) projectcabbage.com;
14) tambayanofwtv.info;
15) telebesyon.com;
16) telebyuwers.ph, telebyuwers.tv;
17) teleseryereplay.com;
18) yzreplay.com.

Based on the complaint, the defendants provide on-demand streaming performances of full-length versions of ABS-CBN’s TV shows and movies through their websites. Defendants often display the latest content to their servers within minutes or hours of the original broadcast in the Philippines. Further, they control the organization and presentation of the content by providing links to ABS-CBN shows and promote and advertise the content as ABS-CBN’s through search engine optimization and meta tags, including the use of ABS-CBN’s marks, then stream the shows for users’ viewing through their websites. With the popularity of ABS-CBN films and TV shows, these sites drive significant traffic that enables them to reap profits from advertising and other revenue.

According to ABS-CBN AVP of Global Anti-Piracy Elisha Lawrence, “this is another phase in our relentless enforcement campaign to identify and punish pirates whose sites have been reported to contain malware that can cause substantial financial harm to innocent people who were just trying to view our shows and movies.”

This latest lawsuit comes on the heels of the police search and seizure by police in Victoria, Australia at the home of Mary Smith in the suburb of Barooga, New South Wales in Australia where numerous pirate ABS-CBN DVDs, DVD burners and hundreds of pirated ABS-CBN movies on computer hard drives were located. Recently, ABS-CBN also received a US$10 million judgment from the U.S. Federal District Court in Oregon against Jeffrey Ashby for damages from his infringing the copyrights and well-known trademarks of ABS-CBN by rebroadcasting ABS-CBN’s popular TV shows and movies on his pirate websites. Among the many pirate sites that Ashby owned were watchfilipinotv.com, watchfilipinomovies.com and pinoytalaga.com.

“We at ABS-CBN are committed to giving our viewers the best viewing experience for our content and protecting the rights of the talented creative and production teams that work hard to deliver these shows and films,” said ABS-CBN Global COO Raffy Lopez. “Online pirates undermine that, hence, we are determined to discourage and stop them.”

‘The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies’ Highlights Battle of Middle-Earth Heroes and Villains

$

Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves.

Hobbit

Here’s a refresher and update on the characters’ motivations and what have they been up to coming into the finale of the trilogy.

Bilbo Baggins. Following his harrowing adventures through the perilous Mirkwood Forest, Lake-town and a death-defying encounter with the Dragon Smaug, Bilbo Baggins has successfully helped Thorin Oakenshield and his Company reclaim their long-lost Dwarven Kingdom. Unfortunately, this victory comes at a high cost as the little Hobbit witnesses the fiery destruction of Lake-town. Fearing that Thorin is descending into the dark depths of “Dragon-sickness,” Bilbo Baggins has many tough decisions ahead if he is to ever return to the Shire and the home that he loves. Caught in the midst of an epic battle, the small Hobbit comes face to face with the reality that he may never go back again.

Thorin Oakenshield. The King Under the Mountain has reclaimed his throne as ruler of the Dwarven Kingdom of Erebor and all the riches within. Having successfully driven out the dragon Smaug, Thorin and his Company have begun assessing their lost wealth and reviving their long dormant kingdom. But lurking beneath their triumph is Thorin’s growing obsession with his reclaimed treasure, and his closest allies fear he is suffering from the sickness that plagued his grandfather, King Thror. An increasingly greedy and petulant leader, Thorin will stop at nothing to ensure that his Kingdom remains intact, fearlessly taking on the armies of those who would steal from it and putting the Company at the forefront of what will become one of the largest battles in the history of Middle-earth.

Gandalf. With his worst fears confirmed, the Wizard Gandalf the Grey finds himself prisoner of the Necromancer, the ghostly visage now revealed to be Middle-earth’s darkest enemy, Sauron. Separated from the Company of Thorin Oakenshield, Gandalf must rely on old and powerful alliances to aid him if he is to escape and travel to the slopes of the Lonely Mountain to bring order into the chaos of Middle-earth’s warring civilizations if they are to stand a chance against evil in the epic Battle of Five Armies.

Galadriel. Oldest of all the Elves that remain in Middle-earth, Galadriel is possessed with the gift of foresight. When signs point to an evil rising within Middle-earth, she secretly supports Gandalf on his quest to reveal its source, knowing that should they fail, the fight against this growing malice will falter, and darkness will prevail.

Thranduil. Father to Legolas Greenleaf, Thranduil is a powerful Elf-Lord, and a legendary fighter. King of the Woodland Realm, he rules over the northern lands of a great forest that was once known as the Greenwood, but is now known by the more ominous name of Mirkwood. Over the long years of creeping darkness, Thranduil has increasingly turned his back on the outside world, concerning himself only with the welfare of his own people. An ancient and bitter feud has left him with little love of Dwarves in general, and one Dwarf, Thorin Oakenshield, in particular.

Legolas. Although a Prince of the Woodland Realm and a High Elf, like his father Thranduil, Legolas is more likely to be found patrolling the forest alongside the Silvan Elves of the Woodland Guard than in the Court of the King. Tall and lithe, he is a lethal fighter and fiercely loyal to his father and his people; however, events in the outside world have begun to encroach upon the insular world of the Wood-elves. A growing sense of foreboding forces Legolas to choose between the will of his father and his own conscience.

Tauriel. A Silvan Elf, this Daughter of Mirkwood is as deadly as she is beautiful. A favorite of King Thranduil and Captain of the Woodland Guard, Tauriel’s job is to follow the orders of the King without question. However, Tauriel has a strong will and unyielding passion for what she believes is right. An expert fighter, she carries signature weapons including twin daggers and a bow and arrow. Like Legolas, Tauriel is extremely fast and agile in battle. Although she has lived for many hundreds of years in Middle-earth, she remains one of the youngest of the Elven folk, and has rarely ventured beyond the borders of the great forest.

Bard the Bowman. When Thorin and Company encounter a mysterious man of Lake-town, they take him for a simple bargeman, but the stranger’s extraordinary skills as a bowman suggest he is not all that he seems. Bilbo discovers Bard to be a kind and decent man, protecting the poor folk of the town from the greed and tyranny of The Master. When Smaug’s fiery wrath takes aim at Lake-town, it is Bard who rises to attempt to confront the Dragon.

New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Present a Wingnut Films Production, “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.” As with the first two films in the Trilogy, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” the final film is a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), with New Line managing production.

Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, with Martin Freeman in the central role of Bilbo Baggins, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. The international ensemble cast is led by Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, with Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, and Orlando Bloom.

Opening across the Philippines on Dec. 12, 2014 in theaters and IMAX®, “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
