The Social Entrepreneurship Program of Caritas Manila will hold the second-run of a Grand Expo dubbed “Buy and Give Expo 2” on November 28-30, 2014 at the Glorietta Activity Center, Palm Drive, Makati City.

Caritas

Caritas Manila’s Social Entrepreneurship Program helps the livelihood of poor communities by encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit and marketing their products. This program is providing skills and training to the urban poor communities and marginalized sector as well as honing them to become social entrepreneurs. Caritas Margins and Segunda Mana are two of the programs under Social Entreprise.

The first expo was held last year, November 29, 30 and December 1, 2013 at the TriNoma Mall in Quezon City.

Buy and Give Expo 2 will showcase products made by social entrepreneurs. It aims to raise funds to help sustain the social enterprise and other pro-poor programs of Caritas Manila.

The Expo will sell products which are 100% made by marginalized communities in Metro Manila and provinces, such as gift items, accessories and personal care products made by urban poor families. It will also offer artworks made by residents of the National Bilibid Prison and pre-loved items and inventories generously shared by the benefactors and corporate partners of Caritas Manila.

The Expo is dubbed as BUY and GIVE because every product enables the buyer to GIVE and SHARE in 3 ways: First, the buyer generates income for the producer from the marginalized community or sector. Second, part of the income is plowed back to Caritas Manila to sustain its pro-poor programs, specifically the Skills and Livelihood Training and the Youth Servant Leadership and Education Programs. Third, the buyer gets high-quality products at friendly prices for his personal use or as gift to people he cares about.

Come to Caritas Manila’s BUY & GIVE EXPO 2 for good finds at reasonable prices. Shopping has never been this indulgent to the heart.

For more information about the Expo, call 562-0020 t0 25 local 26.

Travel: AiinsWorld Theme Park in Bucheon, Korea

AiinsWorld in Bucheon Korea features miniatures of 67 of the world’s popular landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty, the Great Wall of China, and more!

Did you know that when you’re in Korea, you can travel around the world in 60 minutes?!

Apparently, there is a theme park in Korea featuring miniatures of popular landmarks around the world perfect for picture taking and taking selfies. When I say miniatures, by the way, I don’t mean ‘small’ because the replicas are quite big, approximately 20 to 30% from the original landmark. Like for example this replica of France’s Eiffel Tower:

20141103_111229_Richtone(HDR)

The theme park is called “AiinsWorld” and it’s actually one of the highlights of my trip to Korea earlier this month! It’s located at 529-2 Sang-dong, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It’s a little outside of Seoul but you can easily go there by taking the Seoul Subway Line 7 and alight at Samsan Stadium Station, Exit 5. Just follow the sign boards and take a 10-minute walk before you reach the park.

I arrived there around 1:00pm in the afternoon and the ticket price is 8,000 won. Since I have a discount coupon from a tourist brochure that I got from Incheon International airport, my entrance fee was only 6,800 won (i saved 1,200 won!). Travel Tip: When in Seoul, find those red brochures at the airport, they got plenty of discount coupons for tourists.

By the way, if you opt to go to AiinsWorld at night, the entrance fee is 12,000 won starting at 5:30pm. It’s a little more expensive than the daytime tickets, I guess because of the led lights that illuminate the whole place at night time.

Here are the park’s operating hours:

April – October: Weekdays 10:00 – 21:00 / Weekends & Holidays 10:00 – 22:00
November – March : Weekdays 10:00 – 20:00 / Weekends & Holidays 10:00 – 21:00

Last admission is 1 hour before closing time.

Right Next to Me Cover Reveal

RIGHT NEXT TO ME
by Janet Bernardo

Gusto ni Jhoy na maging bitter. May karapatan siyang maging bitter dahil natuklasan niyang siya pala ang third party sa isang relationship. Siya pala ang kontrabida.

All along she thought she was the perfect heroine and Piccard Bayer was the perfect hero.
Ayaw pa niyang mag-move on.

Ayaw niyang mahulog rito. Ayaw niyang mamiligro na naman ang puso niya. Sinabi nito na hindi ito naniniwala sa pag-ibig. He warned her not to fall for him because he has no plan to catch anyone.

Kaya ba niyang baguhin ang isip nito?

After her son Sam Shoaf successfully got on “The Voice Kids” under Team Sarah, 90s RnB artist Arnee Hidalgo attempts to make the coaches turn around for her in the final leg of blind auditions this weekend (Nov 29 and 30) on the top-rating and Twitter-trending “The Voice of the Philippines.”

Arnee Hidalgo

Arnee had notably put his recording career on hold to focus on her family and being a mom. Now Arnee returns to her first love by joining “The Voice.” Will she be able to make it to the show just as her son did?

This weekend, coaches Apl, Sarah, Bamboo, at Lea will have completed their 14-member teams, and as expected, they will pull out all the stops and use their tricks to lure artists to get on their teams.

Copying what coaches Lea and Sarah did before, coach Apl will bring out one of the six Grammy awards won by his acclaimed hip-hop band Black Eyed Peas in hopes of capturing a three-chair turner. Will coach Apl convince the artist to pick him over the others?

An exciting clash will also ensue between coaches Bamboo and Lea as they try to recruit an aspiring goth artist to finalize their respective teams. Also watch out for the last batch of artists to hit the blind auditions, including a nurse, a church singer, and a digital artist.

The ending of the blind auditions also marks the beginning of the next stage of the competition – the battle rounds, where two artists from each team will face off by singing a song picked by their coach. Tune in to the last blind audition episode this weekend for a teaser on who will be paired up with whom.

Don’t miss the continuation of the blind auditions in “The Voice of the Philippines” Season 2 this Saturday (Nov 29), 8:45PM and Sunday (Nov 30), 8:30 PM on ABS-CBN. The Competition Heats Up in ‘The Clash’ on the Lifestyle Network

The showdown continues as our top 6 clashers battle it out in the kitchen armed with their pastry tools and baking skills in Lifestyle Network’s “The Clash.”

The Clash with Sam Oh

This week, two entrepreneurs, a self-taught baker, and a pastry cook will be put to the test.
Born to Venezuelan parents, but raised in Canada, Cyn Villegas’ obsession with sweets as a kid has led her to live the sweet life we all aspire for. Right now, she deals with planning and making elegant wedding cakes for her clients as the chief cake designer and owner of Cynfully.

A dessert maker and business woman rolled into one, it is inspiring to know that Cyn can still squeeze in her busy schedule her hobbies such as sculpting and painting. With a diverse set of skills, Cyn has an edge in creating tempting desserts in the competition.

Another contestant to watch out for is Carmela Villegas who has been educated in the art of patisserie in France.

Studying and living in Europe is on everyone’s bucket list and Carmela is one lucky girl who has fulfilled this. In France, Carmela also had the chance to intern in a French patisserie where her baking skills were sharpened and her creativity honed.

Today, Carmela is a budding entrepreneur as the owner of Casa San Luis Pastries. Proving that anything can happen when you make time to chase your dreams, Carmela moved her wedding preparations in France for “The Clash.”

Wado Siman is your Baker Boy Next Door. Before finding solace in making desserts, Wado used to be an editor for television who suffered burnout. He quit his job and tried his hand in baking cakes and cupcakes. Although he lacked formal training, Wado had a natural flair for whipping up desserts.

When the number of orders kept growing, Wado knew he finally found his niche. Today, he works as an Account Executive for a food gadget hardware store. Determined to prove that through dedication anyone can master the art of dessert making, Wado joined Lifestyle Network’s “The Clash” and has been lucky to be picked as one of the finalists.

Pastry cook Jessica Relos is a self-proclaimed foodie. This gutsy girl who had the opportunity to work in a prominent hotel in Vancouver has plenty of talents. Jessica also loves to play the guitar and to dance. She also thinks excellent deserts need some key ingredients: precision, creativity, and lots of patience.

Who among the four will add “Great Dessert Master” in their list of accomplishments?
Follow their journey by watching “The Clash: Search for the Next Great Dessert Master” this Friday (November 28), 9:00PM on The Lifestyle Network. Encore telecast Saturdays 12:30AM, Sundays 9:30AM and Thursdays 6:00PM.

ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III was honored with a special award, the Tanglaw ng Araw award, for promoting good Filipino values at the 9th Araw Values Awards, where ABS-CBN won five recognitions.

Eugenio Lopez

“ABS-CBN is really the recipient of this award. Since the Araw Values Awards was conceived in 2000, we have been offering it our utmost support as we both know that our institutions’ respective mission and vision statements are aligned with promulgating the importance of Filipino values,” said Lopez in his acceptance speech during the awarding ceremony held at the Dolphy Theater recently.

For more than a decade now, ABS-CBN has been the home of the Araw Values Advertising Awards, and Lopez has been a firm believer of the award-giving body’s aim to promote good Filipino values.

ABS-CBN also reaped five awards this year — two Bronze and three Silver awards, four of which are under Advocacy Communications and one under Branded Communications.

ABS-CBN News’ TV Commercial “Tumayo Para sa Bayan” won both a Silver and a Bronze in the categories for Respect for Laws and Authority and Promotion of Self Disciplineand Love of Country and Respect for National Customs, respectively, while the “Buong Puwersa, Buong Bayan” campaign earned a Bronze and “Agosto 21 Documentary: Salamin” bagged a Silver in the Commitment to Truth, Honesty and Integrity category.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN’s “Tulong Na, Tabang Na, Tayo Na,” a campaign launched just after the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda received the Silver award in the Love of Country and Respect for National Customs and Traditions category.

During the main event, ABS-CBN president and CEO Charo Santos-Concio shared in her opening remarks that she is very proud to be part of a community where competitors unite for worthy causes.

“There are so many things to be done, so many more children to feed, more rivers to clean, more calamity-stricken areas to rebuild, more sick people to heal, more families to strengthen, and more corruption to expose and eliminate. May God always guide us to use the gift of creativity and the power of media that He has entrusted us,” she added.

Gracing the night with beautiful performances were Tres Marias, Jovit Baldivino, Itchyworms, Radioactive Sago Project, Jett Pangan, Raymund Marasigan, Maxene Magalona, Boboy Garovillo, Chacha Cañete, Darlene of “The Voice Kids”, Erik Santos, Maris Racal of “Pinoy Big Brother All-In”, Nicole Asencio, Quest, Bassilyo with Crazymix, and KZ Tandingan. The event was hosted by Xian Lim and Iza Calzado.

The Araw Values Advertising Awards stands unique among the other recognition-giving bodies as it gives importance to the values that an ad campaign communicates, particularly the seven Araw Cornerstone Values. The awards night will be aired on December 7 in ABS-CBN’s Sunday’s Best.

Sony Pictures Animation today announced the casting of Oscar®-, Tony-, Grammy- and Emmy-winning writer, director, performer, composer and producer Mel Brooks in the sequel to the 2012 worldwide hit, “Hotel Transylvania 2.”

Hotel Transylvannia

Brooks has been cast in the role of Vlad, the ancient, undead and incredibly grumpy father to Dracula (Adam Sandler). Dracula, Mavis, Jonathan and all of their monster friends are back in the brand new comedy adventure: when the old-old-old-fashioned vampire Vlad arrives at the hotel for an impromptu family get-together, Hotel Transylvania is in for a comic collision of supernatural old-school and modern day cool.

“Hotel Transylvania 2” is being directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, produced by Michelle Murdocca, executive-produced by Sandler, Allen Covert, and Ben Waisbren, and written by Robert Smigel.
Brooks – who takes on the role 40 years after helming the horror-comedy classic “Young Frankenstein” – said, “I’m having a wonderful time with the character Vlad. He’s been around for eons and he’s a pretty crabby guy. Basically, he reminds me of me.”

Brooks isn’t the only icon who will be voicing Vlad, as Sony Pictures Releasing International is securing the talents of additional high-profile stars around the world to voice the ancient one for the non-English versions of the film. So far, these regional Vlads include: France’s Michel Galabru, the esteemed 92-year-old actor who has appeared in more than 200 films; Japan’s Junji Inagawa, whose voice is instantly recognizable as the “go to” narrator of horror films, radio programs and DVDs; Holland’s Bram Van Der Vlugt, who, for decades, was the most requested Dutch TV/film “Sinterklaas” (Saint Nicholas); and Belgium’s Jacques Vermeire, the well-known Flemish performer with decades of memorable comic television and feature film performances.

Opening across the Philippines on September 2015, “Hotel Transylvania 2” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Kim Chiu Reacts on Issue that She Bought the Best Actress Award from PMPC

A day before the Star Awards for TV was held last Sunday, November 23, a certain @JunGel143 posted on Twitter: “Si KIM CHIU daw ang nanalo sa bidding sa PMPC Star Awards. Wow! Best Actress na si Kim Chiu, Natalo pa niya sina Maja, Bea, Angel, Maricel and Lovi.”

Kim Chiu

The Philippine Movie Press Club or PMPC, the group that organizes the annual Star Awards for TV, Movies and Music, has figured in several controversies in the past saying that they favor some stars who give gifts to the organization in cash or in kind. This year is no exemption as another controversy erupted right after the 28th Star Awards for TV was held last Sunday.

Apparently, blogger Fashion Pulis posted before the awards night a Twitter post by a certain @JunGel143 saying that Kim Chiu won the bidding and will eventually beat 5 notable actresses namely Angel Locsin (The Legal Wife), Bea Alonzo (Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon), Lovi Poe (Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real), Maricel Soriano (Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real) and Maja Salvador (The Legal Wife) for the Best Drama Actress award.

Sunday night came and true enough, Kim Chiu won the highly-coveted trophy for her performance in the primetime series “Ikaw Lamang.”

Because of this, the Kapamilya drama Princess received flak from netizens accusing her of buying the Best Actress trophy from PMPC. Kim replied to the accusations with a simple tweet:

Kim also posted on Instagram (@chinitaprincess) the following:

“sa lahat ng nagdoubt kung bakit ako yung nanalo, gagawin ko po kayong dagdag inspirasyon ko para pagbutihin ko pa ang trabaho ko.. maraming salamat sa inyo!!!! #bestnightever #thankful.”

Do you think Kim Chiu deserved the Best Drama Actress trophy from Star Awards?
