Friendship, First Love Tackled in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’

In Columbia Pictures’ new action adventure Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland fateful decision to embark on an exciting vacation with his friends from school is, initially, all about having fun and adventure in locations far from their homes in Queens.

Michelle (Zendaya) catches a ride from Spider-Man in Columbia Pictures’ SPIDER-MAN: ™ FAR FROM HOME.

It’s also about some of them – Peter, MJ and Ned – coming to terms with having been snapped out of existence for five years, while other classmates remained and grew older. It’s fertile territory for bonding, romance, surprises, and way-too-close encounters with inter-dimensional creatures.

Watch the film’s new TV Spot below:

Zendaya returns as MJ, Peter’s whip-smart classmate, friend and, now, possible love interest. In addition, she figures out a major piece of the Peter Parker puzzle – that he’s Spider-Man – further complicating a new romance that’s not going as smoothly as Peter would like.

Zendaya, who graduated from her work in the popular sitcom Shake It Up to starring roles in Spider-Man: Homecoming, in which she first played MJ, and the blockbuster musical The Greatest Showman, says it came as no surprise to her that MJ figures out Peter’s secret. “She watches everything and knows everything, so it’s inevitable MJ comes to that conclusion,” Zendaya explains. “And it helps that Spider-Man is now showing up all over Europe, where they happen to be on vacation.”

The actress also embraced MJ’s vulnerability, noting that, “We get to know her better in this film and how she responds to situations that make MJ a little more vulnerable.” Zendaya similarly appreciated MJ’s quirkiness and the fact that “Peter likes her for exactly who she is, including all the little weird things that make her MJ. I think it proves that if you’re meant to be with someone, well, you’re meant to be with them!”

But does MJ love Peter as Peter – or as Spider-Man? “It’s a little bit of a tragedy for Peter, who’s hoping that MJ likes him as Peter, but suspects that she’s really into Spider-Man,” director Jon Watts suggests.

Love is also in the air for Peter’s best friend Ned, once again played by Jacob Batalon. Ned is falling for classmate Betty Brant, played by Angourie Rice. “That romance has also triggered an evolution in the friendship between Ned and Peter,” says Batalon. “In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Ned was Peter’s sidekick. This time, he’s found love and sees what that’s all about. He’s really happy to make an instant connection with Betty.”

All the young actors bring their roles to life in unique ways, but Watts notes that the characters share some important qualities: “They’re all really resilient and dealing with what had happened to them in those five years. But at the same time, they also have their eyes on the future and are ready to move on.”

How to Spend Less and Still Look Gorgeous

If you’re a fashion enthusiast, you shouldn’t worry about a shortage of money to upgrade your wardrobe. When you’re working on a tight budget, you should learn the art of getting the best clothes using the least possible amount of money.

However, this approach can be tricky, especially if you’re trying to cut back on your expenditure after an expected slump on your financial status. It would mean that you change your regular joints and plan more stringently to ensure that you survive the cash crunch without hurting your sense of fashion.

That sounds tough. Right? Well, this article offers the best tips that will help you to snag runway fashion even when shopping on a budget.

Fashion on a Budget

You should never allow a small budget to hinder your desire to be a fashion guru. Whatever amount that you set apart for shopping, you can be certain that you’ll get the best deals to keep you glowing. Here are tips that you should utilize when you go out shopping on a tight budget:

Look Out for Bridge Lines

If you love classy outfits, then you fathom why anyone would be willing to spend a fortune on high-end brands such a Missoni dress or a Versace bag. However, browsing the websites of these fashion outlets can be a nightmare, especially if you are working with a small budget. Their clutch can sell at a high of up to $1,200; a budget that demands absolute willingness to spend.

However, a shortage of finances doesn’t necessarily mean that you cannot wear products affiliated to these outlets. Recently, high-end brands are teaming up with significantly lower-priced retailers to develop classy yet affordable outfits. For example, a Versace line was introduced at the H&M to offer discounts to clients (bridge lines).

Such an arrangement gives you an opportunity to get an outfit with your favorite designer’s logo and intricate design at a relatively lower price. Other designers who have introduced this approach include Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Vera Wang, and Charlotte Ronson.

Update Accessories Only

Even when you don’t have enough money to overhaul your wardrobe entirely, you can invest in long-lasting accessories. This will eliminate the need to regularly buy new shirts, pants, and jackets for the sake of fashion. When there is a new fashion trend, you can always upgrade your accessories, and everyone will be awed at your outstanding sense of fashion. What’s good about this approach is the fact that you will remain fashionable without hurting your bank account!

Utilize Discount Stores Adequately

You should always try to overcome the temptation of spending on high-end departmental stores where clothes are overpriced. Your intention should always be to get the best outfit at the most favorable prices.

One of the surest approaches you can use is to shop at discount stores where they offer better pricing without necessarily compromising on the quality. Some of the stores that you can consider include the Burlington Coat Factory, Marshall’s, Ross, and TJ Maxx. For example, you can easily get sunglasses at $20 in these stores while the same brand of the glasses retails at a minimum of $150.

Have a Reliable Tailor

What matters the most is how well a pant will fit! All the other aspects of the brand and the designer are secondary. As such, you should make an effort to look for an excellent tailor who can make classy clothes for you at incredibly affordable rates.

When you follow this advice, you’ll just be buying cheaper threads and materials instead of the higher priced finished product. Getting nicely done pants can cost you approximately $25, and everybody will be wowed by the fit and the expertise in the making. As such, you shouldn’t strain your budget too much trying to buy designer clothes from specific retail outlets.

Buy Used Clothing

The misconception that used clothes is not worth the money is far-fetched. You’ll be surprised to know that some celebrities wear these clothes without blinking. Clothing is basically not about the brand but how well it fits into your body shape, size, and overall configuration.

As such, you should never be ashamed to spend time in your local thrift store. You’ll come out with some of the clothing that will turn out to be your favorite. What’s better is the fact that most of these clothes are reasonably priced which makes this the ideal place for you if you are shopping on a budget.

Final Word

Your financial status should never be a hindrance to achieving your desired fashion statement. In fact, the deficiency should only be a catalyst to stir your creativity and drive you into discovering new avenues that you can explore to get the best clothing at reasonable prices.

This article has offered some of the most implementable tips on maintaining your classy looks despite a fall in disposable income. Which do you think can work best for you?

Keeping Your Cool as a Couple While on a Trip Abroad

Traveling with your spouse is supposed to be fun – not stressful! So, what do you do when the two worlds collide and threaten to ruin your vacation?

Fighting on vacation is the worst. After all, you’ve paid all this money to go somewhere absolutely fantastic only to wind up stressed out and wanting to escape the company of your loving spouse. Suddenly, the thought of spending another night in a hotel room together feels more like a prison sentence than a romantic getaway.

This was what my husband and I learned when we traveled to Europe for the first time – but we didn’t let it get the better of us!

The last thing you want to remember about your vacation is how much you argued, instead of all the wonderful sights you saw or the amazing meals you ate. That’s why I’m giving you 4 love tips that helped us stay happily married even after the world’s most stressful trip to London and Paris.

Amazing beginnings

With my husband and I only ever traveling together on our honeymoon – where everything went smoothly and there wasn’t a hint of irritation with one another, ah newlyweds – we never dreamed that traveling to Europe would be a stressful experience.

Two years after my husband and I were first married we decided to go on our first European adventure. It had always been my dream to go to London. My husband was game – although we could barely afford it. His only request was that we took the Chunnel to see Paris along the way.

The trip was everything I had dreamed it would be – until the end.

The first incident

We decided to spend our last full day across the pond on a train to Paris. We took the Chunnel first thing in the morning and arrived in Paris by 10 AM. We had eight hours to explore the city, which we deemed perfectly acceptable.

Little did we know, there had been shooting the day before we got there. A police officer had been shot. Watching police patrol the city with their guns out, alongside a poster of the deceased police officer down the Champs-Élysées, certainly put us on edge.

We managed to navigate the foreign-language metro system to see a little more of the city, only to have a random strike happen.

In moments like these, it’s unfortunately easy to get frustrated with your spouse. You’re both frazzled, stressed, and want the other one to fix the problem as though either one of you could turn into a genie at the snap of your fingers.

We snipped and snapped at each other as we tried to find another way to the Chunnel to get back to England. Eventually, the metro sprung to life and the random strike was over. My husband and I made the pouty two-hour journey back to our hotel room.

The promise

“Let’s not fight again,” my husband and I agreed. We promised then and there that no matter what happened from that point forward, we wouldn’t let stress get the better of us. Little did we know how soon our promise would be put to the test!

The final test

Finally, we made it home in one piece.

The next morning, we didn’t have to be on the plane until 1 PM. Since we had a late departure and we had only just adjusted to our jetlag, my husband lovingly decided we should sleep in that final morning.

We made it to the train station (which would take us to the airport) only to realize that we were about to be hit with our second metro strike.

All the trains were at a standstill.

I insisted we call an Uber to take us to the airport, but my husband had faith that the trains would come back to life before our flight took off without us.

When we finally made it onto a train, about an hour later, I thought we were good for time. I ate my egg-sandwich we had purchased from the train station, sipped my mocha, and chatted aimlessly; all the while completely oblivious to how panic-stricken my poor husband was.

“I feel sick,” he said, looking up at me. “I think we’re going to miss our flight.”

As we entered the airport, we could not find a sign of our airline anywhere. This left us in the difficult position of “guessing”, which is not the optimal choice when you’re in a panic.

As we approached the airport with a mere 30 minutes to get through customs and board our plane, we were at a crossroads. We stood before a lift that would take us to the right side of the airport or the left. My husband decided we go left.

Wrong!

We scrambled back to the lift after realizing we were nowhere near our airline and went right. This cut a precious five minutes off of our ticking time bomb.

I distinctly remember hearing our final boarding call and looking at my husband in a panic. He turned to me, eyes wide, and said, “Run!”

We took off running through the airport like crazy persons. When we finally reached the gate, the attendant informed us that the gate was closed.

Thankfully, she took pity on us (probably due to our pouring sweat and looking absolutely stricken) and let us board anyhow.

The nightmare of anxiety and stress was finally over.

Love Tips for Making it through your Vacation in One Piece

My husband and I don’t fight very often. In fact, the last argument we had was several years ago about a topic so insane that it makes us both blush to recall it.

But something about being in another country (especially the one where we didn’t speak the language) was enough to put us on edge. Being determined not to argue or ruin our trip, here are some of the love tips we took to heart.

  1. Compromise and communicate like there’s no tomorrow

When traveling as a couple, there is going to be a lot of compromises needed. For the most part, my husband and I have the same idea of what a “fun” evening looks like.

Even so, there were still things I was interested in that he wasn’t crazy about doing (and vice versa) but we made compromises so that the other could get the most out of our vacation.

  1. Learn to laugh it off

We planned and planned for our little European adventure, never expecting that we would end up almost missing our flight or eating cold egg-sandwiches on a frozen train art.

So instead of fighting, we laughed it off. Even in the moments where it wasn’t all that funny.

Instead of thinking “We’re going to miss our flight and be out $2000” we thought “This is going to make for a hilariously epic story when we get back home.”

To this day, my husband still raves with laughter about the time I saw on the train cart, sipping a small mocha and chatting on endlessly about our wonderful trip while he was stressed out of his mind.

The point? Arguing is pointless. Both you and your spouse want the same things – to have fun (or in our case, to get home in one piece!) So instead of turning against each other, just learn to laugh about it. I promise you, it will save you a lot of grief.

  1. Find some “me time” amid your vacation

Vacations are a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time together as a couple. And as studies show, couples who have a regular date night are more likely to stay married, have deeper emotional intimacy, more fun, and better communication skills!

But that doesn’t mean you don’t need to take some time apart – even on vacation!

My husband and I learned quickly that one of the best love tips for travel is to make some time for yourself. We spent a small portion of the morning listening to podcasts, audiobooks, bible readings, or music in order to get some time alone. it’s amazing how refreshed you will feel after a mere 15 minutes apart!

  1. Don’t overschedule your trip

If you don’t want to be stressed – don’t overschedule! Especially if you are relying on public transportation and not your own vehicle.

We had nearly every day jam-packed and, trust me, it gets tiring. This is why we kept our nights absolutely free – which we shamelessly used to lay around in our hotel and watch British cooking shows. This helped prevent burnout and gave us more time to explore and relax.

Keeping your cool while you’re traveling abroad can be difficult. But if we can do it through a metro strike and almost missing a flight – so can you! By following these love tips, you and your sweetheart will be on your way to the world’s most romantic getaway possible. No fighting allowed!

How to Become a Digital Nomad and Travel the World

Who doesn’t want to travel the world? There’s just so much to see, from the different sites and natural wonders to explore new and exciting cultures to enjoying as many different kinds of food as possible, it’s hard to imagine staying in one place your entire life. What if you could go on a trip and never come home – would you do it?

That is the whole premise of a digital nomad: someone who continually travels from city to city, country to country, without having a return ticket back home. The open road is their home, and their reward is seeing as much of the world as they want.

How is this possible? It’s actually easier than you think to become nomadic, especially in today’s connected world. Here is a guide to becoming a digital nomad so you, too, can travel the world.

Save as much as possible

Traveling isn’t always cheap, though in some parts of the world it is, other countries can be quite expensive. Furthermore, leaving an old life behind to become nomadic does require some initial capital, so it’s a good idea to start saving as much as possible right now. Create a high-yield savings account as a safe place to keep your money and get a bit of a higher return on it than what a bank would offer. Limit your frivolous spending on things like movie tickets, shopping trips, and dining out; when you’re traveling, you can enjoy so much more, so keep your goal in mind and save like crazy.  When the time comes, you’ll be happy to have that security net in case there are unexpected expenses or struggles.

Move your work and education online

In the age of the Internet, everything can be done online. Having a job doesn’t necessarily mean you need to be tied down to a location and go into an office every day; there are plenty of remote work opportunities you can do from your laptop anywhere in the world. If you work in an industry where transitioning to freelancing is fairly easy, start the process of establishing yourself as a business and finding your own clients.

If you can’t easily transition to freelance, start looking for a remote position. They also don’t necessarily need to be in your current field, if you are open to a change; there are quite a few opportunities that don’t require formal education, and if your skills are transferable, you can qualify. Some examples include teaching English online, being an executive assistant, transcription work, and many more. Say goodbye to traditional office life, and say hello to working in coffee shops, in Airbnbs, and on beaches around the world.

If you’re thinking about going to school and upgrading your education, or are currently in the middle of pursuing further education, you can easily transition your program to an online program. Reputable schools, like Suffolk University Online, offer full graduate programs that are 100% online, so you can continue your studies at your own pace on your own schedule from anywhere. Online programs are even flexible enough so you can work while you study as well. The amount of fields of study available is growing each year, which makes it easier to find an area you are interested in studying; there is no need to settle for whatever is available when you can choose from such a great variety of programs. So why not grab your laptop and turn a coffee shop in Paris into your classroom?

Start cutting ties

Not relationship ties of course (you’ll need solid connections when you’re traveling on your own to keep you grounded!), but rather location-based and financial ties. Don’t sign another long-term rental lease or lease a new car because you’ll just lock yourself down for another long period of time. Start cutting back and ending contracts like gym memberships, recurring deliveries, or subscription-based services. The goal is to free yourself from one specific place, and a bonus is that you’ll also be freeing up cash flow that is better spent on your travels than on buying materialistic goods you won’t need when you leave.

You also will want to start settling up debts you have, like credit card debt or student loans. Credit card debts should be paid down first and as fast as possible to avoid the high interest rates, so make that a priority. Student loans can be paid down on a payment plan, so worst case scenario, you can’t pay it all off before you’re ready to start traveling and you set up a specific bank account just for your student loan payments to be automatically deducted from every month. Just make sure you keep that account healthy to avoid missed payments and the stress that follows.

Award-winning actress Cherry Pie Picache had always been a woman of faith, until the brutal murder of her mother Zenaida Sison in September 2014.

Five years after the tragedy, ABS-CBN DocuCentral joins Cherry Pie in her quest for peace and forgiveness as she comes to terms with the past by facing her mother’s killer in the new documentary “Radical Love” airing this Sunday (July 7) on “Sunday’s Best” after “GGV” on ABS-CBN.

The seasoned actress’ mother Zenaida was found brutally killed inside her house in Quezon City. The prime suspect was her houseboy, Michael Flores. Authorities soon discovered that it was a robbery attempt gone wrong. Michael was sentenced with life imprisonment for the crime.

Meanwhile, Cherry Pie was trying to come to terms with the tragedy. While her faith in God remained strong, she questioned her ability to forgive. “It’s hard enough when you lose a parent, but then you have to live with the fact that they were killed in that manner. But how can you ask for forgiveness if you can’t forgive?”, according to Cherry Pie.

As Cherry navigated the journey of grief, she turned to her faith to help her—and soon began to entertain thoughts of forgiveness. For more than a decade prior to her mother’s killing, she has been involved in prison ministry, which seeks to promote rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals.

In the documentary “Radical Love,” Cherry Pie looks back at the years that went by since the tragedy, and how she prepared to visit the New Bilibid Prison to face Michael. Will she find justice and peace if she forgave her mother’s killer?

Watch the documentary “Radical Love,” produced by ABS-CBN’s award-winning documentary team DocuCentral, airing on ABS-CBN on Sunday, July 7 on ABS-CBN’s “Sunday’s Best.” Catch the replays on July 14 (Sunday) on DZMM TeleRadyo at 7pm, and on July 15 (Monday) on ANC at 7pm. It will also be made available on iWant.ph following the premiere on July 7. For more on the latest documentaries follow @DocuCentral on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
