Viva Films’ “Miracle in Cell No. 7” surpassed the P300-million mark as of January 2, 2019 according to a report by ABS-CBN News. With the way the film is performing on the second week of the Metro Manila Film Festival, it’s safe to say that the Aga Muhlach-starrer is the MMFF 2019 topgrosser despite being snubbed by the MMFF committee during the awards night for the argument that the film is just an adaptation of a hit Korean movie and the material is not original.

Muhlach has no ill-feelings towards the committee for being snubbed the Best Actor award despite expectations by people who watched several MMFF movies that he should be the winner.

“Masayang masaya po ako talaga, sobra. I knew from the bottom of my heart nung ginagawa ko itong pelikulang ‘to alam ko na magugustuhan talaga nila. Wala pong best actor, all of us we try out best. Si Allen [Dizon], mga kasama ko. Coco [Martin], Vice [Ganda], these are great actors… Kahit sinong kasama ko sa industriya na nabigyang pansin, [okay sa akin],” he said.

The film’s director, however, was dumbfounded of the snub.

“Di ako makapaniwala na in-ignore, na-snub kami sa awards especially sa actors,” director Nuel Naval said.

Meanwhile, “The Mall the Merrier” reportedly earned P230 million in the same period placing second only to “Miracle.” This is the first time in the history of the festival that a Vice Ganda movie did not top the box-office race.

In third place is “3pol Trobol Huli Ka Balbon” and in fourth is “Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity.”
