Any moment now, Star Cinema is poised to announce that the romantic movie “Hello, Love, Goodbye” starring Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo is the highest-grossing Filipino movie of all time breaking the record of 2018’s “The House of Us”!
There are two important records that “Hello, Love, Goodbye” is expected to make in the coming days. First is the “Highest-Grossing Filipino Movie of All Time” title which is currently being held by the KathNiel starrer “The Hows of Us” with a box-office gross of P915 million worldwide set last year. As of August 23, “Hello, Love, Goodbye” already raked in P838,514,653.70 which is P77 million short of erasing that record.
Take note that earnings from this long weekend August 24 to 26 were not yet taken into account as well as ticket sales from Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Saipan, Guam, Brunei, Singapore, and Hong Kong as the film is still showing in these countries. Not to mention that the Cathy Garcia-Molina film is slated to open in Cambodia on August 30, September 1 in Japan, September 28 and 29 in South Korea, and coming soon in Vietnam, Thailand, Samoa, and Myanmar.
So that means, the P77 million needed by the movie to become the new record holder of “Highest-Grossing Filipino Movie of All Time” is very much achievable! It might have even done this as of this posting because today is National Heroes Day and families are going to the malls to watch a movie that everyone can enjoy. The film’s local rival is “Just A Stranger” which only has a limited audience because of its R-16 rating so, therefore, those who are watching in groups will prefer “Hello, Love, Goodbye.”
The second important record that “Hello, Love, Goodbye” is slated to set is to become the very first Filipino movie to reach P1 billion gross in box-office history! This one is a little hard to achieve because the film needs to earn at least P162 million from August 24 onward. Whenever this is possible or not remains to be a question mark. Nevertheless, with the way the film’s story ended and how it performed at the box-office, it would be very wise for Star Cinema to produce a sequel as there is a growing clamor for such.
