McDonalds is stepping away from its traditional Italian-flavored chicken to achieve “a more neutral flavor profile,” media reports said on Monday.

The new premium chicken will be seasoned with mirepoix, which is a French seasoning made from onions, carrots, and celery, as well as salt, pepper, and “maybe a little garlic and herb,” according to Mr. Dan Coudreaut, the director of McDonald’s menu.

Also, McDonald’s is reintroducing the Asian salad in response to critics saying their menu is unhealthy for kids. The ranch dressing, which has traditionally been served with the chicken strips will have “more of a buttermilk flavor.” The dressing will also be available as dip to Chicken McNuggest plus two more sauces: the Thai-inspired hot buffalo and sweet chili.

McDonald’s Chicken to Change Flavor from Italian to French originally appeared on Starmometer on May 25, 2011.
