John Gabriel Pelias is the new record-holder of highest general weighted average in the University of the Philippines. Graduating summa cum laude this year, Pelias broke the former record of 1.03 set by professor emeritus Emerenciana Yuvienco Arcellana in 1948. He obtained a general weighted average (GWA) of 1.016, now the highest since World War II.
Pelias is touted as the “Boy Genius ng UP Math.” He will be graduating with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Math with the highest degree of Suma Cum Laude. After his graduation he wanted to teach in UP and give back to the school that enhanced his knowledge.
